Celtic will have to come up with a heroic performance in Tuesday’s Champions League play-off second leg against Bayern Munich if they want to stay alive in this competition.
In the first leg at Parkhead, Celtic lost 2-1. While Bayern have been in great form at home, Celtic can still surprise them if they keep the game tight.
Last week, the Hoops picked up a routine 3-0 win against Dundee United. Celtic are running away with the domestic title (which they usually do), but their European journey is hanging in the balance.
In the league phase, Celtic suffered a massive defeat against Borussia Dortmund. They need to score two goals, but they have to stay compact at the back; otherwise, Bayern can destroy them completely.
This is how Celtic could line up against the German giants.
Kasper Schmeichel will continue to operate between the sticks. His experience will come in handy, and the Dane is expected to be the busier of the two goalkeepers.
In defence, Alistair Johnston should return to the starting line-up in place of Anthony Ralston. Auston Trusty has gradually become a key player for the Hoops, and he will partner alongside fellow countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Both Carter-Vickers and Trusty have been superb for Celtic, and Brendan Rodger has no reason to break the partnership. Jeffrey Schlupp should continue in place of Greg Taylor.
In midfield, we could see one change. Paulo Bernardo is also injured currently. Callum McGregor is undroppable, and Luke McCowan, 27, could make way for Arne Engles.
Upfront, Celtic should start with Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda. After Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure, Idah has stepped up and the former Norwich City player has been in good form.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane is a major doubt, but Rodgers insisted that it won’t make any difference to their playing system.
