Former Championship star Sam Parkin has hailed Portsmouth winger Josh Murphy as one of the best players in the division, with the winger registering 15 goal contributions this season for Pompey.
Murphy joined Portsmouth during the summer transfer window on a free transfer, after contributing ten goals and five assists for Oxford United last season in League One, as the U’s won promotion.
The Norwich City youth product has been playing exceptionally since joining Pompey in the summer and has been directly involved in 15 goals in the Championship.
The 30-year old has stepped things up of late, with four assists and a goal in his last four matches, as Portsmouth have won three of those games to push up to nine points above the drop zone.
Reflecting on his performances this season, Parkin claimed Murphy has been excellent for Pompey and believes he is one of the top players in the Championship this season.
The former striker revealed how Murphy also impressed him last season with his excellent performances in League One, which helped Oxford United secure promotion to the Championship.
Parkin told the Championship Check-In Podcast (18:53): “Josh Murphy, he is up there right now as [one of] the best players in the division, and we have said that before in League One last year, when he was at Oxford.
“At this stage of the season, he is up to 15 goal involvements now.
“That [against QPR] was his first goal in a while, but he has got four assists in his last four games.
“He is absolutely flying.”
Portsmouth are relying strongly on their home form to keep them away from danger in the Championship and Pompey’s home record is the eleventh best in the Championship.
On the road it is a different story, with just two wins in 17 games and John Mousinho will desperately hope that can change when Portsmouth travel to Kenilworth Road on Saturday to face rock bottom side Luton Town.
