Portsmouth are looking to do a deal for Westerlo winger Griffin Yow.
Portsmouth are interested in Westerlo's American winger Griffin Yow, with the Championship side expected to make an official bid for the player.
After securing their safety in the second tier last season, John Mousinho is looking to kick-on with Pompey as he targets a productive summer transfer window.
The south coast outfit have already brought in Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC, but it appears Pompey want more attacking reinforcements.
That’s after journalist Tom Bogert revealed that Pompey are likely to lodge a bid for US youth international Yow, who is entering the final year of his contract at Westerlo.
“Sources: Portsmouth want to sign American winger Griffin Yow from Westerlo. No official bid yet, but I would expect one. Yow, 22, expects to leave Westerlo this summer.”
The wide man has enjoyed a productive few years in the Belgian top-flight, which includes scoring eight goals in the previous campaign, as the side just missed out on Europa Conference League football.
DC United - where Yow came through the ranks - will be entitled to around 35% of any transfer fee agreed between Portsmouth and Westerlo.
This would be an exciting addition for Pompey for several reasons.
Firstly, they need to bring in more pace and dynamism to the team, and Yow would do just that. He is a direct player, he can run with the ball, and he will chop in with goals, with his record in the past two seasons looking very impressive.
It’s also encouraging that he has experience in a top-flight division, and whilst the Belgian league isn’t a top-five league, it’s still a decent level, and it would make you think that the player would be ready for the Championship, and the demands that come with that.
Finally, at 22, Yow is a player with plenty of room for development. A key aspect of the project at Fratton Park will be identifying young, hungry individuals who are desperate to prove themselves, and to kick-on with the club in the years to come.
So, Yow ticks a lot of boxes, and if they can reach an agreement with Westerlo and the player, it could turn out to be a decent bit of business for the club, as they look to add more quality to the ranks ahead of the new season.
