Portsmouth are interested in Spurs' Yang Min-hyeok, although there is rival Championship interest in the attacker.
Portsmouth are interested in Tottenham’s Yang Min-hyeok, with the attacker expected to leave the Premier League side on loan in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old South Korean is very highly-rated in his home country after impressing with Gangwon, with those performances prompting Spurs to sign the attacker, who officially linked up with the club in January.
However, as you would expect, Yang is down the pecking order at the club, so he was almost immediately loaned to QPR, where he spent the second half of the previous campaign, scoring twice in 14 Championship outings.
Even with the change in management at Spurs, Yang will struggle to get near the first XI given the quality at Thomas Frank’s disposal, so another temporary switch could be ideal for his development.
It appears that a return to the Championship could be on the cards, as the Portsmouth News has revealed that John Mousinho is keen on landing the versatile winger.
The update explains that Pompey are still in the market for new signings to help in the final third, and Yang is a player who the south coast outfit admire.
Yet, any deal won’t be straightforward, as whilst it seems Spurs are willing to let Yang leave, it’s said that there is interest from other clubs in the second tier.
We know that Portsmouth don’t have the biggest budget by Championship standards, so they have to be smart with their recruitment, and that includes utilising the loan market properly.
With Yang capable of playing down either flank, he would add something to the team, and even though he has areas he must improve, the South Korean international does have the raw qualities to help Mousinho’s side, as he is quick, direct and a constant threat.
His time at QPR was mixed, but that experience will have helped the youngster, and he will no doubt have benefited from it ahead of the new campaign.
So, a loan move would make sense, and Fratton Park could be the ideal place for Yang to continue his progression, and Mousinho is the sort of coach that can help him improve.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but Portsmouth do need reinforcements if they are to build on their positive first season back in the Championship last time out.
