In addition to reinforcing their team for the upcoming 2025-26 season, FC Barcelona are also working on the long-term future and are working to bring some of the most promising players in the world to the club.

In this regard, one of the players they have been linked with quite closely in recent days is the Portuguese winger Cardoso Varela.

A recent report indicated that the Blaugranes are seriously interested in his signing. In fact, his representative was also seen at the Ciutat Esportiva yesterday, meeting with Barcelona officials for his transfer.

Porto send a letter to Barcelona

However, there has been an unexpected complication in this operation, as Mundo Deportivo reports that the Portuguese side Porto has not taken well to this meeting and has sent a letter to both Barcelona and RFEF to inquire whether this transfer is set to go through.

Porto believe that they still own Cardoso, who had left the Portuguese club at a very young age, and have taken this case to FIFA. The youngster did not play formally till he was 16 years of age, after having signed with the Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

Complicated operation with Cardoso Varela

The case is still unresolved, and relations between Barcelona and Porto can be strained if this operation goes through. However, the letter makes it clear that these relations would still not completely break down as they consider the Blaugrana side to be a sister club. Still, the Portuguese admit that they are angry with the situation.

Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb, with whom Cardoso Varela is currently playing, are quite optimistic about the operation. They already consider a deal with Barcelona closed and believe they are set to receive €5 million in fixed fee and another €20 million more if the player plays well after his move and meets the variables set out in their agreement with the Catalan club.
