A host of Championship clubs are said to be jostling for the Wolves midfielder's loan signature this month.
Swansea City are reportedly keen on in-demand Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle but Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City have cooled their interest.
The 22-year-old has struggled to carve out a meaningful role at Molineux so far this season, having yet to make a single appearance in all competitions.
Moving into the stage of his career where playing regular minutes is vitally important, the central midfielder now looks set to leave the Premier League side on loan this month.
Cundle has enjoyed multiple loans to the Championship in previous seasons, spending the 2022/23 campaign with Swansea City, before splitting time last season with both Plymouth and Stoke respectively.
Revealing via his X account on Friday 17 January, journalist Darren Witcoop states that Cundle will return to the Championship to spend the remainder of the season on loan.
Witcoop names Swansea City and Bristol City as two of the second tier clubs that are keen on securing his signature, whilst also stating that Plymouth and Stoke have both cooled their interest in their former midfielder.
Millwall are also thought to be keen.
Despite Swansea having a strong central midfield pairing of Goncalo Franco and Matt Grimes, the depth available to Swans boss Luke Williams behind those two could perhaps do with reinforcing.
Veteran midfielder Joe Allen is now 34, and has been winding down into more of a squad role since rejoining Swansea in the summer of 2022. Jay Fulton is 31, and like Allen, has also found himself adopting a backup role so far this term.
Both Allen and Fulton have struggled to make an impact at times when handed opportunities to play, and should Franco or Grimes leave/suffer injury, relying on one of those two having to step up in their absence could prove costly from both a quality and squad depth perspective.
Cundle can also operate as a number 10, and currently occupying that role for the Swans is Welsh international Liam Cullen. The 25-year-old has been one of Swansea's best players so far this season, but once again, should he be forced to miss and extended period of time, Williams' depth in that position doesn't appear to run very deep.
Fellow countryman Oliver Cooper remains sidelined after suffering a fractured foot in November, and is nearing a return to full fitness. Injuries such as that can be troublesome, however, and should he face further setbacks, there wouldn't appear to be an obvious choice to push Cullen in that attacking midfield role.
As such, bringing in a proven Championship performer such as Cundle would really bolster Willliams' strength in depth in the middle of the park, ahead of what they hope will be a big play-off push in the second half of the season.
Cundle was one of Plymouth Argyle's best players during the first half of the 2023/24 season, before he was recalled by Wolves and sent back out on loan to Stoke City for the remainder of that campaign.
Whether it was scoring goals or providing them for his Argyle teammates, Cundle became a real fan favourite during his short spell at Home Park.
As such, many Pilgrims supporters would surely love to see him wear their colours once again, and a player of his proven quality in the second tier would surely be a huge boost to their survival chances.
Goals have been hard to come by for Argyle so far this season, with them sitting 21st in the Championship for goals per match (1.0) - per FotMob - heading into their 27th game of the season at home to QPR on Saturday.
Cundle could go a long way to fixing that in this Plymouth side, and potentially help bring the best out of some Miron Muslic's key attacking players.
