Marc Cucurella was outstanding for Chelsea in the win over Southampton yesterday, inverting into midfield really effectively from the left wing.

He even got a goal as a reward for his strong performance, and after full time he spoke to Chelsea’s Youtube channel about his thoughts on the game:

“We deserved it. We came from a tough moment, I think against Villa we played very well but the result wasn’t there. Today we needed a reaction in front of our fans. I think we started the game really well, we showed that we wanted to win the game and earn the 3 points and I think we deserved it. It’s an important result. We scored 4 goals and we got a clean sheet, and it was important for us to build confidence,” the left back said.

“After those tough games and results we needed to show that we go into the game, from the first minute, to sync with the fans as well, I think today, after the first goal the intention, the intensity the desire from the team was there, I think everyone ran a lot, we played with each other and that’s the most important thing.

“The season is quite good, and now is the most important moment of the season, I think we have a lot left to play but we have a lot of ambition and we want to win all the games.”

Marc Cucurella speaks to Chelsea TV after Wolves win.

Cucurella has come through some tough times at the club personally too – Graham Potter once pointed out there was a “hostile” atmosphere towards the Spaniard, who now finds himself as a key player. If the rest of the squad around him can persevere and change the narrative as he has, we’ll be in a great position going forward.
