AC Milan suffered a late blow in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter, but nevertheless walked away with a point which could prove important down the line. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (7): Conceding an equaliser in added time is never nice, especially not after you have just made a crucial save to deny the opponent. It’s a shame because the Frenchman made several good saves and also did well with his feet.

Walker (6.5): While we didn’t see a lot from him in the attacking phase, he defended very well and used his size to win a lot of duels. He was the player nearest to Zalewski on the goal, but he was busy marking another man so that wasn’t his fault at all.

Tomori (7.5 – MOTM): What a way to respond to the transfer rumours, and doubts from the Milan fans. He was tremendous throughout the game, always staying close to his man and having just the right amount of aggressiveness to win duels and not cause fouls. He only got beat once (by Barella) but he recovered then and averted the danger. Really good from him.

Pavlovic (7): Just like his partner, it was a strong performance at the back and he used his pace well on the left flank on several occasions. He also dared to move forward with the ball when needed, without losing possessions. Very good, but the feeling is that Tomori had an ‘extra edge’ when comparing the two.

Hernandez (7): He was heavily involved in the goal with his run forward before laying the ball off to Leao at just the right moment. Defensively, it was like day and night compared to recent games with several duels won, smart positioning and free-kicks earned.

Musah (6): In the first half, it was very much a mixed bag with some poor moves and some good ones. However, in the second half, he looked much better as Milan changed their formation slightly, dare I say composed. Enough to get a pass here.

Bennacer (6): It was quite poor passing from him, not getting any pace on the balls over the top (which made it easy for the defenders), and he also took too many touches on the ball. However, he was involved in the goal which, at the end of the day, was an important contribution.

Reijnders (7.5 – MOTM): He had Milan’s first shot on target with a thumping effort that Sommer made a good save on. The feeling then was that the Dutchman could make a difference, and so he did a few minutes later with the opener. It was a great shot to get past the Inter defenders, and he continued to play well afterwards. There was one chance he perhaps could have done better on in the second half, and some balls lost, but the goal was decisive.

Pulisic (6): The first half was rather quiet for him, more so due to the way Milan played, but he at least got more involved in the second. He did well with the ball by his feet and also created a couple of half-chances, definitely enough to get a pass here.

Abraham (6): At the end of the day, if he hadn’t stolen the ball from Calhanoglu, then Milan wouldn’t have got their opener. On the other hand, you could also argue that he didn’t quite fulfil his duties as the centre-forward of the Rossoneri, but that’s a discussion for another day.

Leao (6): Let’s be honest, it wasn’t a good pass/shot which led to Reijnders’ goal, but it was decisive still. He could have done a lot better on some chances in the second half, and also seemed to lack a little pace, but it would definitely be harsh to give him a 5.5 here.

Substitutes

Jimenez (6): His clearance wasn’t great just before the goal, there is no doubt about that, but overall his appearance off the bench was positive. He combined well with his teammates and actually posed a threat to the Inter defence.

Terracciano (5.5): Unfortunately, while he was mostly solid, it was his lack of control in the middle of the pitch which led to Inter forcing Maignan to a great save. And on the following corner…

Camarda (5.5): He worked hard and made things difficult for Inter at times, but in the interest of treating him like any other player, a 5.5. is justified here. There was a great chance to pass to Reijnders or Chukwueze, but he got too goal-keen and fired off a shot instead.

Gabbia (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Chukwueze (5): I initially didn’t give him a rating, but after watching the replay, he jogged back when Zalewski got into the box (they were on par just a few seconds before). Poor defending which cost Milan a lot.
