Roma midfielder Niccolo Pisilli described what it feels like to play for his boyhood club.
In a brand new interview with DAZN, Pisilli said of his debut in 2023, “It was a very strong emotion, really beautiful: setting foot in the Olimpico was something wonderful. Most of my friends are Roma fans, so even just the fact that they were watching the game and wrote to me “I can’t believe you got in” was incredible.”
“Playing for Roma is a dream come true, because when I was little I wore the Roma shirt and played in the park near my house. Now I wear the Roma shirt and play at the Olimpico, so it’s something I’ve always dreamed of since I was a child and it’s really beautiful.”
“Being able to play and sweat for this shirt is truly indescribable for me. Being an example is something very beautiful and it’s a great responsibility.”
“Ranieri? His career speaks for itself. As a man, everyone knows what a great person he is. I will forever thank him for all the opportunities he gave me, for all the times he put me on the field, for the advice and for every moment he took the time to teach me something. It was truly, truly an honor for me, and I will forever thank him.”
“De Rossi? As a child I supported him when he played for Roma and I really appreciated him as a footballer. Finding him as a coach at Roma is something that, if you had said it to Niccolò as a child, he would have looked at you in disbelief and replied: “What are you talking about?”. But he is really the coach who I felt had the most faith in me, the one who had the courage to put me on the pitch and throw me into a Serie A match. From there, then, more and more things started to happen to me.”
“Every time he could he came to tell me something, he looked for me, he always tried to make me understand that for him I was strong, and this thing meant a lot to me. This is the most important thing. Maybe I don’t have a precise sentence to report, but I can keep it to myself.”
