Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on his time at Chelsea and revealed what type of striker he believes the club need to sign.

The Blues have signed a whole host of strikers over the last 20 years including big names like Fernando Torres, Andriy Shevchenko and Alvaro Morata.

However, they have had very little success in that department with Didier Drogba and Diego Costa arguably the only two shining in that period.

Aubameyang on type of striker Chelsea should sign

Aubameyang was another striker with a big reputation who the Blues signed in the summer of 2022 from Barcelona and he signed a two year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Things didn’t work out for the former Arsenal man, with Graham Potter preferring to go with Kai Havertz and Aubameyang was deemed surplus to requirements after being dropped from Chelsea’s Champions League squad.

The 35-year-old lasted just one season in west London, where he scored three goals in 21 appearances before joining Ligue 1 outfit Marseille on a free transfer.

Aubameyang has opened up on his time at Chelsea in an interview with The Athletic and insisted he has no hard feelings towards the club and revealed the Blues need to sign a “big striker” who is “like Didier Drogba in the past.”

Nicolas Jackson is currently the first choice striker, but the Blues lack a real alternative to the 23-year-old who is currently on a run of one goal in his last six games.

John Obi Mikel feels Chelsea won’t be able to win the league with Jackson, and at the moment the alternatives are Christopher Nkunku and the teenager Marc Guiu.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Liam Delap, who fits the physical profile, whilst he also has box presence and is good in the air, but any move in January is deemed as unlikely.

Jackson has scored nine goals so far this season and is on course to better his tally from the last campaign, but he needs help and Chelsea desperately need an alternative.
