Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has sent a message via social media after being left out of the club’s pre-season travelling squad to the United States.
Earlier today, United announced a 32-man travelling squad for the American arm of their pre-season campaign.
Beyond the ‘exiled five’ of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Alejandro Garnacho, it was Maguire’s absence from the list that really stood out.
Maguire featured in United’s goalless draw with Leeds in Stockholm, Sweden at the weekend. He was brought on at half-time but was withdrawn in the 74th minute of proceedings.
It’s understood that this was a planned substitution.
United confirmed that Maguire was not named in the US pre-season tour squad because of personal reasons.
Now, Maguire has come out and stated that everything is fine and he is set to link up with his teammates.
The England international wrote on Instagram, “All is fine now. I will be travelling tomorrow to meet up with the squad.”
He added, “Thanks for your concern.”
Even though Maguire has insisted that everything is now good, it remains strange why he was left out of the squad, particularly if the club knew he’d be flying out to the US just a day later.
United kick off their Premier League Summer Series campaign on 26 July against West Ham at the MetLife Stadium, which hosted the recent Club World Cup final.
The Red Devils will then come up against Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth in Chicago on 30 July before wrapping things up with a clash against Everton in Atlanta on 3 August.
