AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that club captain Wissam Ben Yedder (32) was dropped from the matchday squad for the victory over SCO Angers due to disciplinary reasons.

It was first reported on Saturday night, on the eve of the 2-1 victory at the Stade Raymond Kopa, that Ben Yedder had been dropped from the matchday squad. According to L’Équipe and Nice-Matin, the former Sevilla forward was left out having missed a pre-session meeting.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport ahead of Sunday’s match, Clement confirmed that information, adding that the rules had to be respected. “Wissam missed the preparation meeting before yesterday’s training session. Obviously, we can’t accept that a player isn’t present. We have common living rules at the club that have to be respected. For this reason, the management and I came to the decision to not call him up for this match,” said the Belgian coach.

In Ben Yedder’s absence, Myron Boadu, who has seen his game time limited this season got on the scoresheet. The Frenchman is, however, Les Monégasques’ top scorer this season in Ligue 1 (17 goals), and he will also be absent when Monaco face Lille OSC, a direct rival for the Europa League place, next week through suspension.
