Manchester City’s poster Academy graduate Phil Foden has offered an update on his future within the game and particularly at the Etihad Stadium.
Conversation has sparked among some supporters of the Premier League champions over which superstar talent could be the next name to commit his long-term future, after a trend was set by Erling Haaland earlier this month.
The Norway international striker committed the best part of his top-level professional playing career to the Etihad Stadium by penning a staggering nine-and-a-half year agreement with Manchester City to take him close to his 34th birthday.
That deal has seen Haaland become the recipient of one of the most lucrative contracts ever signed in football, while some are now wondering whether other players could follow suit in the coming months and years.
One of those names is being tipped as Phil Foden, who is a boyhood Manchester City fan and has previously shown intent to never leave the club and complete a staggering career with his boyhood team.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with the Manchester Evening News this week, Foden told the newspaper of his belief that there is “no other place” that he sees himself playing at in the immediate and long-term future.
“I’m not looking anywhere else,” Foden insisted during the conversation this week. He continued, “I’ve been here from such a young age, I’m comfortable here.
“There’s no other place that I can see myself at the moment. You never know for the future but I’m more than happy where I am.”
Despite being just 24 years of age, Foden is rapidly closing in on his 300th appearance for Manchester City having already established himself as one of the most decorated English footballers of all time.
With 17 trophies to his name since breaking into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad back in 2017, Foden has amassed a collection of Premier League titles, domestic cups, and the illustrious UEFA Champions League among many honours.
City will be keen to ensure that Foden remains hungry for more success, but recognising his achievements to date will no doubt form part of the negotiations over any new contract, with his existing deal running until the summer of 2027.
