Arsenal Women and Spanish international Mariona Caldentey has been crowned the PFA Player of the Year for the 2024/25 campaign. The award was announced on August 19, following what was an outstanding debut season in North London.
The versatile midfielder featured 41 times in all competitions, registering 19 goals and 10 assists. Her impact proved decisive, particularly in Arsenal’s memorable Women’s Champions League triumph. Arsenal confirmed her success as she capped off a dream first year.
Voted by fellow professionals, Caldentey became only the third Arsenal player to win this prestigious domestic honour. Kim Little claimed it in 2011/12, while Vivianne Miedema followed in 2018/19. This year, Caldentey edged out teammate Alessia Russo as well as Erin Cuthbert of Chelsea, Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa of Manchester City, and Phallon Tullis-Joyce of Manchester United.
Her PFA Player of the Year award comes after also collecting the WSL Player of the Season title in May, in her debut WSL season. Combined with her contributions for Spain at Euro 2025, and her role in Europe with Arsenal, the 29-year-old is now regarded as a strong contender for the Women’s Ballon d’Or. That would arguably mark the most significant personal accolade of her professional career.

It was a proud evening for Arsenal as several players were recognised at the Manchester Opera House. From the men’s squad, Gabriel, William Saliba and Declan Rice were all selected in the PFA Team of the Year. For the women, Caldentey, Kim Little, Emily Fox and Alessia Russo were all included in the WSL’s best XI. In addition, new Arsenal signing Olivia Smith, who impressed last season at Liverpool, was named Young Player of the Year.
With such strong representation, Arsenal can take great pride in the individual success of their players. These achievements underline the progress made across both the men’s and women’s sides, and the ambition to keep pushing forward. COYG!
