Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to issue comment on news of Savinho staying at the club this summer, but did offer a return date for the Brazilian winger.
The 21-year-old wide forward has been one of the major talking points of the transfer window, with Tottenham pushing hard in recent weeks to test Manchester City’s stance around the player and a possible exit just 12 months after his signing for the club.
The North London side’s pursuit ultimately ended in disappointment, however, with the Premier League giants standing firm and insisting the player will remain part of Guardiola’s squad for the 2025/26 campaign.
Savinho had been one of the stars at Girona before making a long-awaited move to the Etihad Stadium, and his explosive pace and flair quickly made him a fan favourite in the opening months of his time with the club
However, the player’s full adaptation to Pep Guardiola’s set-up has been hampered by injury issues and speculation over his immediate future. Despite that, Manchester City view the youngster as a central part of their long-term attacking plans.
This latest update also follows Savinho’s own message to fans this week, when he posted on Instagram that he was “missing it”, alongside a photo of himself celebrating in a Manchester City shirt.
Speaking to reporters from the City Football Academy on Friday afternoon, manager Pep Guardiola was quizzed for his thoughts on news suggesting that Tottenham would not be signing Savinho this summer and that the player would be remaining at the Etihad Stadium.
“Monday is the finish of the transfer window and next press conference you can ask me about that,” Guardiola insisted. “Don’t ask me about the rumours, or the potential arrivals, or potential flights. So, next week.”
Offering further response to questions around a potential return to action for Savinho, and whether the player would be back immediately after the international break, Guardiola said, “Yeah, I hope so, I hope so, yeah.”
With Guardiola now openly suggesting a post-international break return, supporters can expect to see Savinho feature as Manchester City’s schedule ramps up across multiple competitions.
His availability will be a welcome boost given the club’s need for fresh attacking impetus alongside the likes of Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden, Omar Marmoush and Erling Haaland, as well as summer recruit Rayan Cherki.
What remains to be seen is whether Pep Guardiola gradually eases Savinho back into action or throws him straight into the thick of things. With a Champions League campaign beginning and domestic fixtures piling up, rotation and squad depth could prove decisive.
