Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was keen to remind his players of their previous triumphs earlier on this season, a new report has revealed.

The recently-crowned Premier League champions have now made it three trophies won this season, following on from their historic Treble-winning season of the last campaign and a number of hardships during the ongoing season.

City have now claimed the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League, with an FA Cup final date against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium still on the horizon for Guardiola’s all-conquering squad.

However, Pep Guardiola was called into drastic action during the early stages of the campaign, with new reports revealing the spontaneous huddle called by the manager to revive his squad ahead of a second-half of football in their opening home game of the season.

That is according to The Times’ Paul Hirst, who reveals that early in the season Pep Guardiola kept ‘reminding his players of the standards’ that they had set the previous year, when Manchester City claimed a historic Treble triumph.

Revealing one particular incident, the report reveals that Guardiola pulled his City players into a huddle in the Etihad Stadium tunnel just before they walked out for the second half of the first home match of the season against Newcastle.

The Catalan coach is claimed to have pointed to a photograph on the wall of the City squad celebrating the UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan two months earlier. “Look at this picture guys,” Guardiola said. “Why did we win that night? Because we were strong.”

Manchester City will be hoping to equip Pep Guardiola with a refreshed squad for the upcoming new season, with the manager often referencing the drive of his team to succeed as a reason why he could either continue or leave the club.

The 53-year-old’s current Manchester City contract is due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, and the Catalan boss has already stated that conversations will be had during the campaign to resolve his future.

The current expectation in some quarters is that Guardiola will leave the club at the end of his current contract, however there remains a clear desire from within the Manchester City board to encourage an extension taking him through to 10 years in charge of the side.
