The England international was extremely keen on joining them in January but a deal could not get over the line because of the finances involved. Rashford ended up going to Aston Villa, where he spent the latter half of last season.

Villa opted not to make Rashford’s signing a permanent one despite his impressive form. He returned to United and has been on the market and available for transfer since.

On Saturday, news broke that United and Barcelona had agreed a deal that would see Rashford spend the upcoming 2025/26 campaign with the Blaugrana. Barca will cover Rashford’s full salary and will retain the option of signing him permanently for a sum of around €30m.

United gave Rashford permission to fly to Spain to seal the transfer, and a video of his plane touching down has surfaced on social media.

Pogba’s thoughts on Rashford

The Rashford situation has sparked a lot of debate and his former teammate Pogba got involved, giving his assessment of the situation.

Speaking to YouTube star IShowSpeed on a boat for beIN Sports, Pogba remarked, “That’s crazy, but I’m happy for him because they [United] took his number. Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them.”

“It’s great for Barcelona to be honest.”

“I’m not even talking about United, because they’ve bought a few new players and the new manager wants to do his thing I guess.”

The Frenchman added, “It’s not really his [Amorim’s] fault. If he doesn’t believe in someone. He needs to win. If he doesn’t win they’re going to sack him.”

Rashford’s contract with United runs until 2028.
