Shortly after turning 18, attacker Patrice Covic has signed his first professional contract at SV Werder.
“Patrice has always impressed in first-team training, both on and off the pitch. With his enthusiasm for the game and willingness to learn, we see in him the potential to earn a spot for greater challenges,” explained Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football. “We’re pleased that Patrice will continue his development here with us.”
Patrice Covic is pleased to be remaining with the club: “My move to SV Werder last summer was the perfect step for me to take. I’m extremely proud to have now signed my first professional contract. I would like to thank the club for their trust in me and will do all I can to pay it back.”
Patrice Covic joined Werder in 2024 after a 10-year spell with Hertha BSC. The son of former Bundesliga player and Hertha coach Ante Covic scored 14 goals in 28 competitive games for SVW’s U19s last season. Also a Croatia youth international, Covic reached the semi-finals of the U19 German Bundesliga with Werder and opened the scoring as they won the youth version of the DFB-Pokal. Covic has been a part of the first-team squad in training since January and has made the bench six times in competitive games. He is also preparing for the 2025/26 campaign with Horst Steffen’s team.
