Former Blue Pat Nevin admitted he was “absolutely staggered” by one thing Chelsea fans did in Sunday’s win against Liverpool.

The Blues gained a vital three points in the race for Champions League football as they beat the newly crowned Champions 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer both got on the scoresheet, with Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah putting through his own net.

Nevin on Chelsea fans booing Salah

It was an impressive performance from Chelsea and one which saw Palmer return to his best form at a crucial stage of the season.

The game also saw Mohamed Salah return to Stamford Bridge, having been signed from Swiss side FC Basel back in 2014.

The Egyptian didn’t have the best time at Chelsea making just 19 appearances before leaving the club to rebuild his career in Italy and then moving to Liverpool in 2017, where he’s now a club legend.

Salah was booed by some sections of Chelsea supporters, something Nevin stated left him “absolutely staggered.”

“I got one at the weekend there, which I was absolutely staggered by,” he told The Monday Night Club.

“Doing the commentary in the Liverpool game and Salah came on the ball and he got booed by a load of Chelsea fans.

“I went, ‘What, where did that come from?’ I really couldn’t get it. Yes, he played for Chelsea, but it wasn’t really [his fault he left].”

Cucurella kept Salah quiet

Salah has had an outstanding season but wasn’t able to make an impact, largely down to the job done by Marc Cucurella.

The Spain international did a brilliant job in keeping the forward quiet with his aggressive defending, and Cucurella has developed into one of the best left backs in the league under Enzo Maresca.

The 26-year-old has been vital for the Blues this season, and he’ll have a key role to play over the final three league games, with Chelsea looking to qualify for the Champions League and win the Conference League.
