Former Lazio and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio weighed in on the Biancocelesti’s chances of clinching the Europa League trophy.
The Biancocelesti emerged as one of the frontrunners in many observers’ eyes after finishing on top of the 36-team group stage table. Their impressive European campaign saw them shrug aside the likes of Porto, Ajax and Real Sociedad, even though Viktoria Plzen gave them a run for their money in the Round of 16.
The Italian capital side is now preparing to take on Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of the quarter-final, which will take place in Norway. In his interview with Foot Italia, Di Canio insisted that his former club can go all the way to win the European competition, but explained why Tottenham Hotspur might pose the biggest threat.
Lazio have done an incredible job in the last six months. There are teams that can challenge this but we will see. They have a fantastic chance in the Europa League. They need a full hard working team with peak mental and physical health. Teams like Tottenham whose players were out injured for longer are now more fresh than the others. This can be critical.
Lazio and Spurs would cross paths in the semi-finals if the Aquile overcome Bodo/Glimt and the North Londoners skip past Eintracht Frankfurt. On the opposite side of the bracket, Manchester United, Olympique Lyonnais, Rangers and Athletic Bilbao will all be vying for one spot in the final.
