Manchester City are now entering into discussions over when they could welcome Vitor Reis to the Etihad Stadium as part of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The Premier League champions have already concluded negotiations for one new central defensive arrival this month, after it was confirmed on Friday evening that Abdukodir Khusanov would join the Etihad Stadium club from RC Lens in Ligue 1.

Txiki Begiristain and his recruitment colleagues finalised an agreement with the French side to sign the 20-year-old for €40 million plus bonuses, with Khusanov now set to sign a four-and-a-half year contract at Manchester City including an option to extend by 12 months.

However, given the ageing nature of the current Manchester City squad and a desire to rebuild the roster significantly over the ongoing and next transfer markets, the club are not settling on just one central defensive arrival.

That has led the club to South America and one of Palmeiras’ most highly-rated talents to have emerged in recent years, with a complex discussion currently centred around when Vitor Reis could make the switch to Pep Guardiola’s squad this year.

That is according to the information of UOL Esporte’s Andre Hernan and Bruno Andrade, who reports that Palmeiras and Manchester City are in discussions over the potential date of Reis’ transfer to the Etihad following an indifference in desires on the matter.

It is once again reminded that the Brazilian club only intended to negotiate the teenage centre-back’s departure after this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, while City wanted an immediate arrival of Reis this month.

As for the total value of a potential deal, it is reported that an agreement between the two clubs could reach €45 million when taking into account the variable bonuses that are set to be installed into the transfer.

Manchester City will also be travelling to the United States in the summer following the conclusion of their cross-competition pursuits in European football for the return of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The current holders of the competition face challenges against Moroccan outfit Wydad AC, United Arab Emirates’ Al Ain, and Italian giants Juventus in the group stage of a tournament that has been significantly expanded from the edition City won in 2023.

It remains to be seen just how seriously Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will take the competition when it comes around, however the sidelined defensive midfielder and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is eyeing the tournament for a return to on-field action.
