Manchester City is at the forefront of Oscar Bobb’s thinking when it comes to his future in the game, the Norwegian international has told reporters.

The City Academy graduate – who remains a firm fan favourite and very highly-regarded within the club’s first-team set-up – is approaching a season in which he will be hoping for much better fortunes than the last campaign.

Having arguably been the standout performer for Manchester City during their pre-season tour of the United States last summer, Bobb sustained a leg bone fracture in the days leading up to their Premier League opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

There had been a belief in various quarters that the Norway international would be one of the first names on the teamsheet, giving him the chance to hold down the right-wing slot for the duration of the campaign if it was not for his unfortunate training ground injury.

But having now fully-recovered and scored his first goal of the 2025/26 season while at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, some have been left wondering whether Oscar Bobb is still firmly in the plans of Pep Guardiola or whether a temporary exit could be the better option.

The possibility of a loan switch for Bobb has largely been sparked by talk of an agreement having been struck with French giants Olympique Lyonnais to take one City star on loan as part of the deal to bring Rayan Cherki to the Etihad Stadium.

But speaking to reporters from the tournament in the United States this week, the Oslo-born forward has insisted to reporters that he only sees his future with Manchester City ahead of the forthcoming European season.

“I expect to be here,” Bobb insisted, as relayed by ESPN’s Rob Dawson. He continued, “I think that’s the way I have to look at it and, you know, try and impress every chance I get and, yeah, just be ready.”

Looking back on last season and his lengthy recovery process that culminated in the final weeks of the campaign, Bobb explained, “It was tough at times, but the club offered great support and I was always thinking of coming back stronger.

“I came back around February and then got a bit of an overload and that kept me up for a few weeks, but then after that, I’ve been fine. But obviously, getting the fitness back takes some time, but I feel great.”

And having earned his first clear opportunity to showcase his talents on the pitch at the Club World Cup, scoring a goal against Al Ain on matchday two of the group stage, Bobb admitted, “I always want to show what I can do.

“So definitely, I think it’s just about taking my chances and getting the chances. And then it’s all up to me. And that’s what I think. If I get the chances, I’ll be happy. Hopefully, I’ll take them.”

Ahead of the upcoming European campaign, with Manchester City opening up their Premier League account with a visit to Wolves on Saturday 16 August, Oscar Bobb is likely to face direct competition from Savinho for the wide-right position in the attacking set-up.

Pep Guardiola has a vast array of options at his disposal following summer transfer activity, and a fluid format could also see the likes of Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, and Phil Foden interchange between roles with Bobb and Savinho.
