Manchester City’s rising star and first-team winger talent Oscar Bobb has issued an update on his recovery process from a leg break in training during the summer.

The Norway international has been ruled out since the start of the season, having come into the new campaign with huge hopes of success following on from an outstanding pre-season camp with the club in the United States.

With goals and assists provided for Manchester City during their four-game tour Stateside, many had hopes of a full breakthrough season for the 21-year-old, who was making an early claim for the main right-wing role in Pep Guardiola’s attack.

However, as Manchester City prepared for their Premier League opener against Chelsea off the back of Community Shield success against United, news emerged of Oscar Bobb sustaining a broken bone in his leg that would require surgery and a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Speaking to The National whilst on commercial duties for Manchester City in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, Oscar Bobb issued an update on his ongoing road to recovery following the injury sustained in training in early August.

“It’s been just over two months now and we knew it was a long injury so I’m just focusing on getting a bit better every day and getting back. Not as soon as possible, but as strong as possible,” Bobb explained.

The Norway international continued, “It was unfortunate, [but] I didn’t think of it as that bad just because I’ve seen loads of my friends get big injuries and a lot of them have come back stronger. So, I thought of it more as a pause rather than a setback.”

Discussing what his aims are for the remainder of the season, with a return date tenuously pencilled in for early 2025, Bobb insisted that he remains hopeful of providing more goals and assists to Manchester City’s output during the crucial run-in of the campaign.

“First and foremost [my aim is] getting back in good shape,” the 21-year-old explained to The National.

“And then hopefully pushing on from that and getting even more games than I got last year and contributing even more – scoring goals, getting assists and playing in the important games.”

In the time that Oscar Bobb has been recovering and working towards a return to on-field action in the coming weeks, Savinho has solidified his place largely as Manchester City’s starting right-winger.

With a number of assists to his name, and the latest coming as recently as Wednesday night against Sparta Prague, there is huge admiration from within the club as to how swiftly the Brazilian has integrated himself into Pep Guardiola’s plans.

And Savinho will need to maintain his top-level performances until Bobb returns in order to ensure that Manchester City remain competitive across competitions, especially given the recent injuries sustained by Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku.
