Staying laser-focused for all 90 minutes wins three points for Orlando City SC. The Lions kept energy, speed, and skill on their side for a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.
Orlando midfielder Martin Ojeda opened up early with a score in the 18th minute. It was a play that must have been charted by scouts and repeated in drills. Ojeda not only slipped past the Revolution backline but also got around their keeper, Aljaz Ivacic.
That was the spot where midfielder Eduard Atuesta perfectly popped the ball to Ojeda so he could dump it into the empty net for the first leg of his brace in this match.
For a few moments in the second half, New England equalized. Defender Tomas Chancalay got the best of Orlando’s defense when he scored during a switch of play in the 55th minute. He settled a long, cross-field pass from fellow defender Ilay Feingold, who got the assist.
The equalizer was one of only two shots on target by Chancalay, and it was Feingold’s third assist of this MLS season, his first.
The 1-1 draw didn’t last long. This time, when the opposition rang the alarm, Orlando City was listening.
Orlando winger Ivan Angulo worked the ball into cross range, getting it once more to Ojeda for the assist as he drove it into the net in the 58th minute. Ojeda has 15 goal contributions (eight goals and seven assists) in his last 15 matches, 22 overall. That ties former team captain Nani in 2019, the most productive in team history, and is also the fourth-most productive in the league.

With 32 minutes left plus stoppage time, the Revolution mounted one more attack calculated from their scouting reports. They intended to raise Orlando’s late-match hex, explained in their scouting reports.
The attack was led by Revolution team captain and attacking midfielder Carles Gil. It was a valiant effort with Gil tallying five key passes and four shots. But a second equalizer didn’t come for the home team.
This was a match where Orlando City SC planned and played every second of regulation and stoppage times. Even with the best efforts of the New England Revolution, they couldn’t overcome the Lions’ finely executed game plan.
