Regis Le Bris admitted Sunderland are targeting two strikers ahead of January.
Regis Le Bris has hinted that Sunderland are keeping an eye on "one or two" strikers ahead of a potentially busy transfer window.
This news came about during his pre-match press conference for the game against Norwich City, which is a 15:00 kick-off this coming Saturday (21st December).
Having struggled for form in November, the Black Cats have shown a strong resurgence in recent weeks, picking up seven points from their last three matches.
This included a fine comeback against Swansea City, with Jobe Bellingham's late goal sealing a 3-2 victory.
With five games between now and January 5th, Le Bris will be looking for a strong return as they look to keep in touch with the top three.
However, the January transfer window will present new challenges, and bolstering the attack with a potential addition up front is clearly a key priority for Sunderland.
While Le Bris has several strikers at his disposal, it’s clear he doesn’t fully rely on them to deliver the goals needed to propel Sunderland to the Premier League.
So far, Aaron Connolly, Wilson Isidor, and Eliezer Mayenda have all been used, but between them, they have managed a combined total of just eight goals.
This could prompt a January transfer, and during Thursday's press conference that question arose.
In response, Le Bris said: "Probably we have a specific attention about one or two players who can help [strikers] but it’s not an easy task because the group is strong.
“With many young players and many young surprises because some of them were not expected to play at that level and because they have had opportunities to play I think this is the identity of the club. They showed they were able to play at that level.
“Now it is a question of consistency, injuries, opportunities as well. It’s a question of connection. It’s not just one more player, it's somebody who has to fit with the project and the make-up of the team and it’s not an easy task.”
As detailed in his reply, Le Bris clearly places a priority on selecting the right player and that isn't always just someone who can score goals.
While a natural finisher is a bonus, a striker who would mold well with the current group is just as important as a negative dressing room can affect a push for promotion.
This once again could see the Black Cats targeting a younger player and Brighton's Evan Ferguson has already been touted for a potential loan move to the Stadium of Light.
