Manchester City have one representative in the long-list of nominations for the 2024 Golden Boy award, issued by Italian publication Tuttosport.

The Golden Boy award is issued by sports journalists to a young male footballer playing in European competition and perceived to have been the most impressive during a single calendar year.

Crucially, all nominees included on the long-list must be under the age of 21 and play in a European nation’s top tier league, while the most-recent edition of the award was won by Real Madrid and England international Jude Bellingham.

For Manchester City, there have been four previous winners of the award that were either representing the Etihad Stadium club at the time of the claim of the prize, or went on to play for the reigning Premier League champions.

That list consists of Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Mario Balotelli (Inter Milan & Manchester City), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), while the latest nomination representing the club has now been confirmed.

As announced by Tuttosport this week, Manchester City Academy graduate and England international Rico Lewis has been included in the top-100 list for the 2024 edition of the globally-renowned Golden Boy award.

Manchester City have seen a number of their players nominated for the prize in recent seasons, with the 2023 edition of the award also putting forward Rico Lewis as a nominee, alongside Argentine midfielder Maximo Perrone.

The 2022 award saw Cole Palmer nominated during his time in Manchester City’s first-team squad, before the Englishman would go on to sign for Chelsea in a blockbuster deal and subsequently earn a string of first senior England international caps.

Yan Couto was also put forward for the same edition of the Golden Boy award, with the Brazilian set for an assessment over his Manchester City future this summer following an exemplary spell with Girona and subsequent caps for the senior Brazil team.

Other nominees from Manchester City in recent seasons have included Jayden Braaf, Filip Stevanovic, Adrian Bernabe, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Phil Foden, Benjamin Garre, and Lorenzo Gonzalez.
