On This Day: Callum McGregor’s goal-scoring Celtic debut | OneFootball

Celtic captain Callum McGregor made his debut ten years ago today. The young midfielder was named in the Starting XI by new boss Ronny Deila for the clash with KR Reykjavik.

Having starred for the U20s, McGregor was given the chance to start in the Champions League qualifier. The player would shine from the start, earning the MOTM accolade. It was a typically assured McGregor performance, taking the ball well and driving forward while playing passes with great composure.

The goal was a cultured finish, one that we have become accustomed to from McGregor over the last decade.

Deila’s side took their 1-0 lead to Murrayfield, where they would host the Icelandic side due to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games using Paradise. The Norwegian manager is due great credit for bringing players like CalMac through into the first team.

This would be McGregor’s first appearance of 464 for the club. In that time, he has scored 64 goals and assisted on 77 occasions.
