Manchester United have suffered further embarrassment as the club’s hygiene rating was given two stars after health inspectors found mouse droppings in numerous hospitality areas.

The Red Devils have just come off a terrible season where they finished 15th in the league table.

They also lost their most important game of the season, as they meekly surrendered the Europa League final 0-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.

There have also been a plethora of bad news stories around the club due to Ineos’ spending cuts, which have seen hundreds of people lose their job over the last few months.

According to The Athletic, the drop in standards at the football club is also present off the pitch.

The outlet reports, “Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium has been given a two-star food hygiene rating after mouse droppings were found in multiple hospitality areas.”

An inspection from the Trafford Council on the 16th April did recognise that “significant work” had been undertaken to deal with the rodent problem at the site.

Nonetheless, it uncovered “that seven different areas of the stadium — including the Ambassador Lounge, the Number 7 Suite and the Devil’s Bar — contained rodent droppings.” It must be stated though that there were no droppings in the kitchens or food preparation areas.

Unfortunately, this was just one of the problems that the club will need to deal with to boost their future rating.

The report outlined that there were “open containers of condiments that exceeded the recommended label dates of the manufacturer’s instructions.”

What’s more, there was lack of hot water and soap available in numerous parts of the stadium. Moreover, the general cleanliness in hospitality areas was also highlighted as below par by the inspectors.

A club’s spokesperson naturally responded and stated, “Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford. Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served.”

This is not the first time that the club has had problems with its hygiene ratings though.

Last season the club was given the scarcely believable rating of one out of five stars after serving raw chicken to some guests in 2023.
