Official | Patrik Schick extends his contract at Bayer Leverkusen until 2030

Bayer Leverkusen have announced that striker Patrik Schick has extended his contract at the club until 2030.

In a summer of departures, Schick extending his contract will be a big positive for Leverkusen. Sky Germany reports that the 29-year-old’s new contract will make him one of the highest earners at the BayArena.

Schick is also expected to play an important role under head coach Erik ten Hag. Considering the departures this summer, it would not be surprising if Schick were to be named a vice-captain.

On extending his contract, Schick said:

“I want to and will continue to contribute my goals, that’s my strength. But I’m also looking forward to being a pillar in building a new team capable of winning titles. I like looking ahead. Bayer 04 is working intensively on putting together a top team for the future. I firmly believe that we will continue to play an important role in the Bundesliga and in Europe in the future.”

The Czechia striker joined Leverkusen back in 2020 from Roma for €26.5m. During his time with Leverkusen, Schick has run hot and cold, mainly due to injury issues, but last season was his second-best under the Bayer Kreutz, scoring 21 and assisting once in the Bundesliga.

The big questions heading into this season will be: Can Schick carry on his form from last season? And will ten Hag play Schick and Boniface together? Something that previous head coach Xabi Alonso was reluctant to do.
