Le Havre have booked their ticket for next season’s Ligue 1. The oldest club in French football history have been crowned Ligue 2 champions. Le Havre only needed a draw to cap off a remarkable season for the Normandy side to win the title. The Luka Elsner-led side have defeated relegation-battling Dijon 1-0 at Stade Océane in dramatic fashion. 21-year-old Le Havre forward Josué Casimir scored the only goal of the game in the first half. The home fans started the party a bit too early in invading the pitch before the referee had even whistled the end of the game. The game eventually resumed for a mere second, without the Dijon players, whose relegation to National 1 was confirmed. The Sky and Navy Blue outfit are back in the French top-flight for the first time since 2009.

It is not yet clear who will join Le Havre in Ligue 1. Second-placed FC Metz have done their part of the job. The Lorraine side defeated Bastia 3-2 at home. Despite the home fans also invading the pitch in joyous bedlam, Metz’s Ligue 1 status is still waiting on to what will be decided for Bordeaux vs Rodez. The game was been cancelled tonight due to an altercation between a Bordeaux supporter and Rodez’s goal-scorer Lucas Buadés. The league authorities will decide on Monday if the game would be replayed or declared lost by third-placed Bordeaux.
