Official: Kylian Mbappe wins 2024/25 Pichichi trophy ahead of Barcelona superstar | OneFootball

Earlier in the season, Robert Lewandowski was almost considered the runaway leader in the race for this season’s Pichichi Trophy.

The prestigious award is given to the top-scorer in each La Liga season, previously won by legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lewandowski, with a stellar first half of the campaign, was almost destined to win the coveted trophy until Kylian Mbappe showed up.

Mbappe bags the Pichichi trophy

Thanks to a brilliant second half of the season, Mbappe has now officially bagged the Pichichi trophy this season after scoring 31 goals in La Liga.

Mbappe’s win was confirmed when Barcelona secured a 3-0 win over Athletic Club last night. Despite scoring a brace, Lewandowski was unable to overtake the Frenchman’s tally of 31 goals.

Lewandowski ended the tally with 27 goals, four goals shy of Mbappe, who joins legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo Nazario, Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy in the list of Real Madrid players who have won the trophy.

Mbappe’s Pichichi triumph also comes a day after the Frenchman bagged the European Golden Boot award, beating Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

These individual accolades could go a long way in boosting Mbappe’s confidence as he prepares for his second season at Real Madrid, under the leadership of new coach Xabi Alonso.

One would expect Mbappe to play an even bigger role in his second season, especially as Real Madrid gear up for a transitional period under Alonso.
