AC Milan have confirmed the departure of Ismaël Bennacer (27) on loan to Olympique de Marseille.

The transfer fee has not been disclosed but reports suggest that Marseille have paid €1 million for the loan and have the option to make the deal permanent for a further €12 million plus €3 million in bonuses.

Marseille had been looking to strengthen their midfield this winter with Ismaël Koné (22) departing the club for Stade Rennais on loan. Les Phocéens had been linked with Nicoló Fagioli (23) but instead turned to the Milan midfielder who they had courted in the summer.

Bennacer has missed much of the season with a calf injury suffered right at the start of the campaign. As a result, he has made just eight appearances in all competitions, including just six in Serie A. Marseille then reignited their interest late in the window and once again, Bennacer was keen to make the move to the Vélodrome.
