Germany have announced their squad for the September international break, where they will play Slovakia and Northern Ireland in their first set of World Cup qualifiers.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has handed several players their first call-ups. Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins and Mainz’s Paul Nebel have all been called up for the first time. The latter two were a part of Germany’s run to the under-21 Euros final in the summer.
Jamie Leweling and Antonio Rüdiger both return to the national team. While Deniz Undav drops off of the squad.
The biggest change will be in the dugout, as former assistant head coach Sandro Wagner is now the head coach of Augsburg and has been replaced by Benjamin Hübner.
Germany’s last game was in the UEFA Nations League, where they lost 2-0 to France in Stuttgart, in a set of games where they learnt their current level against some of the best teams in the world.
