FC Barcelona have officially announced that young defender Hector Fort has undergone surgery to address respiratory issues. The teenager will be sidelined for four weeks for recovery.
“Hector Fort has undergone nasal septum surgery to address the respiratory issues and chronic congestion that have affected him throughout the season. His expected recovery time is four weeks,” the statement from the club read.
It means that the Spanish prospect will be fully recovered and ready in time for when Barça start the pre-season in July.
Fort is coming on the back of a mixed campaign with Barcelona. While he was a part of the domestic treble-winning squad, the La Masia defender did not play as regularly as he would have liked.
With Jules Kounde and even Eric Garcia ahead of him in the pecking order at right-back, speculations about a summer departure had been doing the rounds.
However, Fort has decided to continue at Barcelona next season, with the club also keen on retaining him.
The young right-back will now focus on rest and recovery so that he can arrive for pre-season in tip-top shape and make a strong push for a bigger role under Flick come next season.
