Following a lot of controversy and a self-imposed exile since the summer’s international break, Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski has returned to the Poland national team squad.
The 37-year-old centre-forward opted to withdraw his name from the Poland squad for their matches in June, citing fatigue and physical burnout.
However, his actions led to him being stripped of the national team captaincy by former manager Michal Probierz.
It led to Lewandowski declaring himself unavailable for selection for the national team as long as Probierz was in charge.
Eventually, the then-manager ended up resigning from the post, with Jan Urban being named his replacement.

Having taken over, Urban has worked hard to mend fences with Lewandowski and has now handed him a call-up for Poland’s upcoming fixtures in early September.
Not only that, the manager has also reinstated Lewandowski as the team captain for the upcoming matches, putting the controversy from a few months ago fully in the rearview.
“I want us to start training camp with a clean slate. Robert Lewandowski will be the team captain, and he will appear with me at Monday’s press conference,” Urban said (h/t PZPN).
The Polish national team take on the Netherlands on 4 September in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers before hosting Finland on 7 September.
