The winger was at Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea’s win over Fulham this afternoon, so we expected the announcement was soon to follow.

As ever Ben Jacobs is the most plugged in on the details of the deal – he says it’s a £40m fee, with a 10% sell on fee retained by United. Garnacho signs the now standard 7 year contract.

This move has been in the pipeline for months. We were first linked with Garnacho back in January, but we’ve waited patiently for him to engineer his exit from Old Trafford. Once he was fully excluded from Ruben Amorim’s plans we were able to negotiate a nice fee for him, and it was then just a question of selling off Christopher Nkunku to bring in the money to make the deal happen.

Once that move was confirmed this morning, it was a matter of time before Garnacho was given the green light. It’s not a transfer that all fans are delighted about – he’s been out in the cold at Man U for a reason, let’s not forget.

Garnacho needed more than ever as Chelsea keep up sales

If signing Garnacho seemed a little excessive a couple of weeks ago, it certainly doesn’t now. The Blues sold Nkunku this morning, and Tyrique George could yet go to Roma too. Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho have also departed from last year’s attacking options.

The injury to Liam Delap means that even with the cancellation of Nicolas Jackson’s loan, Chelsea need Garnacho right away. It will be absolutely fascinating to see what the Argentine talent makes of this huge second chance. The talent is there – but is the attitude and the mentality? We trust Enzo Maresca to find out.
