June is the complete opposite for New York City FC compared to their busy May. The Pigeons will play only two matches, with the first one occurring this week and the second one occurring at the end of the month. So, they will start with a home game against Atlanta United FC. This will be former head coach Ronny Deila’s first time back in the Big Apple since he became the head coach of the Five Stripes.
Of course, this is not the first meeting between the former coach and NYCFC’s current one, Pascal Jansen. The first reunion match occurred back in March and might have been the catalyst for the goal-scoring struggles from the Boys in Blue. They were up 3-1 on Atlanta, and it was thought that would be the first road win of the time. Instead, defensive errors led the team to lose 4-3, humiliating them with a cherry on top. That is why it is critical that this game ends with all three points.
Hopefully, the recent comeback draw against Nashville SC will spark NYCFC to take revenge on Atlanta United. They can do so, but the team will also be missing some big-name players like Matt Freese, who will be with a struggling USMNT for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and Keaton Parks, who is out injured again. Alonso Martínez will also be missing due to the Gold Cup, which is a big blow to the attack. The striker deserves to be with Costa Rica, but who will step up for the Bronx side?
Plus, Yankee Stadium has not been kind to the team. They have lost three times already in 2025 at the main home, which is not a trend they want to continue. As such, NYCFC should aim to stop those misfortunes and take revenge on Atlanta.

If NYCFC supporters cannot watch or listen to the game, then they can follow along via MLS Soccer’s timeline and NYCFC’s X account. Additionally, the club will post updates here and there on Facebook.
NYCFC’s game against Atlanta is also their Pride Night. While it is unfortunate it is on a Thursday, the match was the club’s only option in June. Still, those who attend the fixture can celebrate Pride and hopefully three points, too.
