The fun homestand is over as New York City FC will head out on the road again. The Pigeons won both of their games against Orlando City SC and the New England Revolution, bringing their record to 2-1-1. It is a respectable start, but sadly the team will have some tough matches over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, NYCFC II has played two games in their young season and is currently 1-0-1.

With the seasons in full swing, there are, as always, other newsworthy items to cover. Therefore, here is another NYCFC news roundup that includes the latest update on Malachi Jones.

NYCFC news roundup: Malachi Jones and more

Malachi Jones and his injury setback

Last June, Jones sadly suffered a leg injury during a win over Orlando City. He fractured his tibia and fibula, subsequently ending his rookie season. The winger showed potential during his brief time on the pitch, so this was heartbreaking for the player, club, and fans.

Unfortunately, the latest news is not the greatest. NYCFC announced that Jones had surgery "to repair the right tibia fracture he sustained last season in June" in the United Kingdom. He will start his recovery at City Football Academy in Manchester before returning home. This was interesting to hear, but perhaps they felt the Fortius Clinic, where he had the surgery, was the best option based on the fracture.

The club did not reveal the estimated timetable for Jones' return. Since he required another surgery, the NYCFC winger should be expected to miss another few months at the minimum. His recovery time will depend on the extent of the surgery. Hopefully, he will be back at some point this season.

NYCFC II signed Seymour Reid

NYCFC II has a new player. The MLS Next Pro team has added 17-year-old Seymour Reid through the 2025 season. Afterward, his contract will turn into a first-team contract, where he will join the Bronx side from 2026 through 2029 as a Homegrown player. There is also an option for 2030.

Interestingly, Reid only joined the NYCFC academy in 2024. The striker has since impressed both in the preseason with the first team and the first two MLS Next Pro matches, where he scored three goals. The young talent has the ability to develop into a top goal-scoring player, and it would be great to have a Homegrown striker who can impact the first team.

Fans should pay attention to Reid in his first professional season. NYCFC is fortunate that he joined the academy and is already proving his talent.
