That offer yesterday was the second one Newcastle United have made for Anthony Elanga, having already seen a bid on deadline day, end of August 2024, also knocked back.

Sky Sports now reporting that Newcastle United are considering an enhanced third offer for Alexander Isak’s international teammate.

Always most informative in these situations to have a look at what (in this case) Nottingham Forest fans are having to say in reaction to Tuesday’s news of Newcastle’s latest bid.

As you can see below, a very varied range of views in terms of whether Nottingham Forest fans think Anthony Elanga will eventually end up at Newcastle United. However, one theme that does run through pretty much all comments is that the Forest fans rate Anthony Elanga for sure.

Nottingham Forest fans commenting via their LTLF message board on Newcastle United bidding to buy Anthony Elanga:

‘We are some way down the food chain – selling a prized asset occasionally is inevitable.

‘Joelinton plus £30m will do it.’

‘I value Elanga at whatever Newcastle value older, worse and less versatile Gordon at. Simple.’

‘Sounds to me that we are going to end up selling for 50-55. That’s too low IMO but if we are already setting stall out at 60 then I guess we end up around there.’

‘I’ll say it very quietly because I’m sure I’ll get shot down for it but I’d retain Elanga before MGW myself.

Anyway, bar-codes want £80m for Gordon so that’s the starting price in my book.’

‘Strange one this. We don’t want to sell, but value the player at £60m. Feels like a deal is brewing to me. We are securing other forward targets. Only a matter of time before we are linked with another Newcastle player too.’

‘I wouldn’t be wanting to sell Elanga at all, but let’s not assume we know precisely how much Forest value each player at, suffice to say £45m seems on the low side, especially given what was offered last season.

There’s a habit of overestimating our own players’ value and slightly underestimating other teams’ players so I wouldn’t be surprised if Elanga was nearer to £45m than £70m. In the same way, I’d imagine MGW is nearer the £60m than the £100m.’

‘In Elanga’s case the number is surely £60m minimum. Newcastle are entitled to a different opinion, but Forest are equally entitled to refuse the offer and I’m glad they have. £45m is nowhere near what we should get if we don’t want to damage the squad.’

‘Elanga is better than Gordon all day long.’

‘In Elanga’s case the number is surely £60m minimum. Newcastle are entitled to a different opinion, but Forest are equally entitled to refuse the offer and I’m glad they have. £45m is nowhere near what we should get if we don’t want to damage the squad.’

‘Fans shouldn’t be upset if Elanga or MGW go for a value less than what has been suggested on here, notwithstanding that it’s fine to be disappointed they might leave at all.’

‘I think Anthony falls into the same bracket that Morgan does for us, really. Other teams are naturally interested in them but they are worth more to our team that clubs will be willing to pay for them.

Part of that is their impact to the team and their importance to Nuno’s playstyle but also the structure of their deals. Elanga, there is the issue of Man United’s 20%.

If the reported figures are right, we’d only make around 27-30m if we sold Elanga now, after Man United take their cut and the amortisation. I don’t think that’s enough for the sort of like for life replacement we’d want.

That’s probably why we’re looking for around £60m, not just because they’re similar valuations to Mbeumo and Semenyo but also, at that point we’ve got 40-45m to spend on a replacement which makes it somewhat easier to attract someone.

Elanga will go if Newcastle get close enough to £60m, but the same went with Man City with Morgan, I don’t think they will.’

‘I get where we are currently, but if this summer is about building/improving the squad it seems counter intuitive for that to be at the cost of selling our best players (if we want to build a squad capable of challenging for trophies).

Also seems counter intuitive buying young players that have incredible potential, seeing them improve then selling them before they fulfill their potential (if we want a squad capable of winning trophies). He’s a likable guy and he’s going to be ridiculously good in a couple of years – you can see his end product is already improving.

That said. If we’re offered silly money then aye, considering the stage of our club’s progression we would probably have to sell. Our recruitment has been very good in recent times so I trust the club to have plans in place if he does go.

Hope he stays. He’s some player.’

‘Newcastle over value Isak at £120m (or £150m or whatever it is) and Gordon at £80m, as they don’t really want to sell either. But then seem surprised that we ask an over inflated fee for Elanga, who we dont want to sell. Its not that hard to understand is it?’

‘Newcastle won’t pay what he is worth to us & EM isn’t going to compromise

The deal won’t happen, just like last year Newcastle are wasting their time.

They should go to Bournemouth for Semenyo, a club that’s far happier to sell their players.’

‘Bids don’t usually go in unless there’s a chance the player wants a move… Hope he stays as he’s been brilliant for us

‘Oh come on – how many bids did we make in Jan and how many players came?

He will only go if the Big Man is happy with the price and we have got a replacement . No way is Newcastle going to strong arm our owner into selling if he does not want to.’

‘There’s also a difference between being receptive to a move and being hellbent on one.’

‘Going back a couple of months Eddie Howe did that interview where he said Newcastle were taken advantage of due to PSR – us and Brighton, last season. This year he said the boot was on the other foot and they would be looking to take advantage. Wonder if they think we need to sell by the end of the month – hence the low ball bids? All the indications are that we’re fine for PSR though?

With regards to Isak, it’ll be down to the player if clubs come after him. He’s not the highest paid at Newcastle, but they’re prepared to offer about £150k per week to keep him, which makes him their highest ever paid player. Issue is if the tw.t clubs want him it’ll be £300k a week.’

‘Nuno is unlikely to want a player that would prefer to be elsewhere. ‘If’ his head has been turned (even if it’s by his agent) then selling becomes compelling. I’d love them all to stay and to have 2 x first 11’s like Man city, but we know that isn’t viable.’

‘PSR is just another way to slowly eradicate loyalty from the game. No-one stays anywhere very long these days for various manufactured reasons so why would they become too attached.’
