The Championship trio are keen on the 27-year-old
Middlesbrough, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are all eyeing up a move for Jamal Lewis.
Pre-season is now well underway as the beginning of the 2025/26 Championship campaign edges ever closer.
As clubs look to add extra quality to their squads in time for the start of the season, this second-tier trio are keen on the former Newcastle United defender.
Lewis left the Magpies following the expiration of his contract this summer after a frustrating five-year stint in the North East.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Middlesbrough, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are all interested in acquiring the full-back.
The 27-year-old is available on a free transfer after his St. James’ Park exit, which removes a certain financial element from any potential deal.
Lewis joined Brazilian giants Sao Paulo on loan last term but would make only six appearances in South America before an injury saw the temporary move terminated.
The Northern Irishman has 39 caps for his country and last featured for the nation in October 2024.
He featured just 36 times for Newcastle United during his time with the club, playing more games (38) during one single loan stint with Watford during the 2023/24 campaign.
Several League One outfits are also rumoured to be sounding out a swoop for the full-back, but they will face stiff competition from the Championship trio.
One of the second-tier clubs credited with an interest in the defender is Norwich City, who are preparing for their first season under new boss Liam Manning.
Lewis enjoyed his footballing education with the Canaries and operated out of Carrow Road for three years as a professional.
He made 100 appearances for Norwich in this time and played a crucial role in the team that stormed to the 2018/19 Championship title.
The full-back was signed by Newcastle the following year after the Canaries suffered relegation from the top-flight, but half a decade on, he could be set for a move back to Norfolk.
This previous connection gives Norwich an immediate edge over Middlesbrough and West Brom during negotiations, with the temptation to return to a familiar setting usually strong. That said, Lewis may opt for a completely fresh start at this point in his career.
It’s yet to be seen where the 27-year-old ends up, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that the Canaries already hold an advantage in the race for his signature.
