In an update published by Defensa Central, it has emerged that Liverpool star Andrew Robertson, who is now being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, was actually offered to Real Madrid first.
However, the record European champions rejected the proposal, turning down the chance to sign the experienced left-back.
Real Madrid are currently in the market for reinforcements in the left-back position, and their focus has been firmly set on Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras.
While the Spanish full-back is expected to join after the Club World Cup, the Madrid hierarchy have made it clear that no alternative names are being seriously considered, Robertson included.
The report explains that it was a British intermediary who approached Real Madrid with the offer for the Scotland international. The club’s response was direct and firm: “No, thank you.”

There was no negotiation, no second thoughts, just a flat-out rejection. It highlights how focused Real Madrid are on executing a specific transfer strategy this summer and how little interest they have in straying from it, even for a high-profile name like Robertson.
While Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen on the Liverpool defender, the nature of the offer paints a different picture.
It was not so much that Atletico have targeted Robertson as a priority, but more that his agent has been shopping him around Europe, offering his services to any top club looking for a left-back.
Real Madrid just happened to be the first call and the first to say no.
If Robertson does end up at the Wanda Metropolitano, it would follow a familiar narrative for Atletico, who have made a habit of signing players that Real Madrid have passed on or discarded.
