Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku is willing to take a pay cut to facilitate an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer, according to The Telegraph.
The Blues have made the 27-year-old available on the transfer market, and he has interest from a few clubs, but his wages could prove a stumbling block.
Nkunku earns around £195,000 per week at Chelsea, and not many sides can afford to have that sum on their books. The Frenchman is willing to accept a reduction.
Nkunku is attracting interest from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig in Germany.
However, Premier League suitors like Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also tracking his situation.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star will struggle to get a look in at Chelsea this season after the Blues added attackers like Jamie Gittens, Estevao Willian, Joao Pedro, and Liam Delap to the ranks.
There is no space for Nkunku in the squad, and he might be better served heading elsewhere in search of game time. Unfortunately, it remains unclear where he will end up.
Chelsea reportedly value him at around £42 million (an even bigger stumbling block than his wages) and refuse to accept a loan move if it does not come with an obligation to buy.
A return to RB Leipzig represents the smartest option for Nkunku once he departs Chelsea.
The Frenchman thrived in Saxony, where he became the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season and one of Europe’s deadliest forwards.
Leipzig know how to use him, and he knows their system, meaning he could instantly reignite his career.
More importantly, Ole Werner’s side are desperate for inspiration after their humiliating 6-0 opening-day loss to Bayern Munich.
With Leipzig crying out for creativity and goals, Nkunku could step straight back into a starring role while restoring his reputation at a club that believes in him.
