With the final few days of the summer window upon us, no major activity is expected at Real Madrid, with transfer business considered to be closed by the club.
However, that does not rule out the possibility of one or two late departures, particularly from the youth and reserve ranks, with a number of top-flight teams eyeing players from Castilla.
In such one case, AS reports that newly-promoted La Liga club Levante have turned their attention to Manuel Angel, a 21-year-old midfielder from Real Madrid Castilla.
The Valencian side recently received interest from Benfica for Carlos Alvarez, and while that negotiation continues to progress, the sporting department is studying the next steps in order to redirect their investment. As such, Manuel Angel has emerged as a target.
The 21-year-old Spaniard is considered one of the great prospects of La Fabrica and one of the leaders of Alvaro Arbeloa’s squad. A player of notable quality, he is capable of fulfilling different roles in midfield.
In fact, Manuel Angel was primed for a first-team call-up under Xabi Alonso, but an injury prevented it, leading to Thiago Pitarch getting the opportunity instead.
Levante believe his profile, young, talented, and with strong potential, fits their project, and are weighing up a late move.
Real Madrid’s policy has been clear in recent years regarding players leaving their academy. The structure of any deal would have to be drawn in a way that allows them to retain some control over the player’s future.
The most common formula has been a sale of 50 per cent of the rights, while retaining a buyback clause, ensuring an option to retain influence over the player for a certain period of time. This has been the case in practically all recent academy departures.
Whether the same happens with Manuel Angel remains to be seen.
