Newcastle United would consider bids for Matt Targett, and Leeds United have enquired about his availability during the ongoing transfer window, according to The Athletic.
Lewis Hall has established himself as the first-choice left-back at the St. James Park club, paving the way for the Elland Road club to land Targett if they table the right offer.
Leeds want to bolster their defensive ranks for the second half of the campaign, and the Newcastle star has emerged as a realistic target.
The 29-year-old has made 163 appearances in the Premier League having also featured for the likes of Southampton and Aston Villa, and the Whites could do with his vast experience as they look to push for automatic promotion this term.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke needs all the quality squad depth he can get as we approach the most important months of 2024-25, and Targett fits the bill.
While the Whites have Isaac Schmidt and Junior Firpo as left-back options at the moment, the Spaniard is the only left-footed full-back among the senior players, and they could do with another natural player in the position.
Firpo is also out of contract at the end of the season and could move on if both parties cannot agree to fresh terms, and Targett would be a perfect option to have in the short term.
Leeds are two points clear at the top of the Championship table after 29 games, and they need to end the season well to avoid slipping down into the play-off places.
They could do with some quality additions before the January transfer window closes next Monday, and a deal for Targett could be straightforward as he is out of favour at Newcastle. He will fancy his chances of playing regularly at the Yorkshire club and could be open to a move if they come calling.
