Newcastle United sign former London City Lionesses defender Joel | OneFootball

Newcastle United have completed the signing of former London City Lionesses defender Lois Joel on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies earlier this evening.

The 25-year-old full-back, who can also operate in a midfield role, joins Newcastle United after leaving former club London City Lionesses earlier this summer.

After completing her college career in the United States, Joel returned to England at the start of the 2020/2021 season and joined West Ham United. The player went on to make 15 appearances for The Hammers in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Joel moved to latest club London City Lionesses in summer 2022 and she made 40 appearances for The Pride in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored two goals.

Joel has been a consistent performer in recent seasons and she will be hoping to provide Newcastle United head coach Becky Langley with a reliable option.

After joining The Magpies, Joel said “It’s a really exciting time to join this club. I met Becky and the girls who were all so lovely and I felt like I could fit in here straight away.

“It’s a big club and one that’s on the up with the women’s team. The girls have done really well to get promoted from tier three into the Championship and I hope just to bring a bit more experience in this league because it will bring a few different challenges.

“I can play in a couple of different positions as well, so it’s good to be able to give Becky [Langley] some options – and hopefully I can bring some good vibes, too.”

Joel is Newcastle United’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window.
