Newcastle United pair Martin Dubravka and Scott Parker were celebrating on Saturday night after a straightforward win over Sunderland.
The ex-NUFC goalkeeper and manager enjoying victory in the first Burnley home match of the season.
When last in the Premier League in 2023/24, Burnley had to wait until December 2023 for their first home win of that season at Turf Moor.
Really pleased for Martin Dubravka in particular, Burnley keeping a first clean sheet in their last 22 Premier League games.
Burnley ran out deserved 2-0 winners against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor, second half goals from Josh Cullen and Jaidon Anthony.
The Clarets had a tough introduction back in the Premier League when losing at Tottenham 3-0 last week but against a poor Sunderland side it was a different matter. Judging by how shocking West Ham were on Friday when losing 5-1 at home to Chelsea, it looks like the Mackems couldn’t have been handed easier opponents at home last weekend when the Hammers were equally bad.
Martin Dubravka only had one save to make and Burnley comfortable winners against a team they finished 24 points above last season in the Championship.
Former Newcastle United midfielder, now Burnley manager, Scott Parker really enjoying the moment:
“It was a really pleasing performance. I thought we were really good across the 90-plus minutes.
“We started well, set about them early, limited them to maybe one big chance, but then it was all about us.
“To keep a clean sheet is really pleasing too.
“Each and every player, the 1-11, the subs, those who didn’t get on – I can’t speak any more highly of the way we all approached today’s game.
“Any three points in the Premier League are massive, but this was the sort of performance and atmosphere that we will need to generate here throughout the season.
“I thought the fans were absolutely superb, they fed off the boys’ performance.
