Newcastle United plan to hand Alexander Isak a new contract at the end of the season to prevent him from jumping ship after another terrific campaign, according to The Telegraph.
The Swedish international centre-forward bagged twice against Southampton today to take his tally to 17 Premier League goals in 21 outings this season.
The 25-year-old is on course to improve upon his total from last term when he recorded 21 goals in 30 league games, establishing himself as one of the best centre-forwards in the land.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest clubs in England are interested in securing his signature. Chelsea were in the race for him last summer, and they might try for him again.
Arsenal are also looking for a centre-forward to lead their line following atrocious performances from Kai Havertz in the number nine role.
Paris Saint-Germain also entered the fray after sending Randal Kolo Muani out on loan.
Newcastle have slapped a ridiculous £150 million price tag on the former Real Sociedad forward, but they know they must do more than that to keep him at Tyneside for another season.
Players of his ilk want to win trophies, and Isak may make a fuss this summer if a big offer comes in.
Newcastle’s plan for a new deal may be helped if they win the League Cup, but even that might not convince the player to stay.
Securing Champions League football would also help talks with Isak, and they must move swiftly with Arsenal, PSG and Chelsea still on the prowl.
There have been constant rumours about Arsenal to unsettle Isak, but Newcastle remain resolute that they will not let him walk to the Emirates Stadium.
