Newcastle 'reignite' interest in Milan defender | OneFootball

Newcastle have reignited their interest in Milan defender Malick Thiaw, though Rossoneri coach Max Allegri is said to be keen to keep the German at San Siro.

Reports in Italy from several sources, including Gazzetta dello Sport, have claimed that Milan had previously accepted an offer of €25 million from Serie A side Como, however, Thiaw declined the move prioritising his wish to only leave Milan for a Champions League club.

The Shields Gazette have also confirmed renewed interest from the Premier League side. Allegri though, has indicated that Milan would only be open to selling if the fee exceeded €30 million.

Despite being targeted by Newcastle, Thiaw reportedly impressed Allegri during pre-season training, reinforcing Milan's belief in his potential and their desire to keep him. Allegri’s view is backed by the fact that he remains important to the manager, who would need an offer that “isn’t refutable”.

Meanwhile, Thiaw himself appears settled in Milan and determined to fight for a place in Allegri’s squad, even though his role in the team became uncertain by the end of last season.

For Newcastle to secure Thiaw’s services, they would need to bid significantly more than what Como offered. Reports suggest the current valuation is closer to €35m. Even then, Milan have little incentive to sell, given Allegri’s apparent trust in him during pre-season preparations.

Newcastle face a significant financial outlay to bring in the 23-year-old defender — and even then, Milan may simply decline if they value his presence in Allegri’s defensive plans. The situation is developing, and any definitive transfer could hinge on whether the Magpies can meet Milan’s valuation and satisfy the player’s own ambitions.
