Newcastle have submitted an improved second bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško according to the Athletic's David Ornstein.
Their new bid is believed to be in the region of €80m up front, after an opening bid of €75m and €5m in add-ons was rejected by the Bundesliga club.
The report states that the Slovenian forward is still wanted by Manchester United, but indications suggest there is an unwillingness to pay the same sum as the Magpies, which puts Eddie Howe's side in a strong position as things stand.
Positive talks have also taken place between the clubs and the 22-year-old, but nothing is agreed yet and there is no guarantee of the outcome or the striker's preferred destination, with it still possible Šeško stays with Leipzig.
Newcastle have signed only Anthony Elanga in a frustrating summer to date, with Alexander Isak returning to club training amid a desire to leave the club and serious interest from Premier League champions Liverpool.
