Newcastle 'add' Fulham striker to summer shortlist | OneFootball

Newcastle are exploring the possibility of a summer move for Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, with the Daily Mail reporting Newcastle are contemplating a bid in the region of £40m.

At 24, Brazilian frontman Muniz impressed during the 2024/25 season, scoring 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, including a late, match-winning strike at St. James’ Park against Newcastle in February 2025.

Initial interest from Leeds had seen a rejected offer of £32m plus add-ons, which Fulham swiftly turned down, viewing Muniz as one of their most valued assets.

According to Mail journalist Craig Hope, Newcastle have entered discussions with Muniz’s representatives following their failure to land top targets Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike. That has opened up a contingency plan involving the Fulham striker, with meetings between clubs and the player’s camp already having taken place.

While Newcastle have not yet confirmed a formal offer, the £40m valuation reported by the Daily Mail suggests a significant step up from previous bids, indicating confidence in Muniz’s Premier League potential and his ability to replicate his goalscoring form at a higher level.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has repeatedly insisted that Muniz is not for sale, declaring that the club will not enter negotiations unless a truly irresistible offer arrives. Fulham also retain a contract extension option that could offer them greater leverage in talks.

Muniz joined the Cottagers in 2021 from Flamengo and has since made 97 appearances, scoring 26 goals. His rise included a standout 2023–24 campaign featuring a Player of the Month award in March 2024 and a spectacular bicycle-kick goal that earned plaudits across the Premier League.

Should Newcastle press ahead and succeed with their offer, they would secure a dynamic forward well suited to counter-attacking phases and impact roles off the bench — a profile that Howe values highly as squad depth and European commitments increase. With Alexander Isak’s future less certain, and Callum Wilson unlikely to be a long-term solution, Muniz could provide fresh competition up front.
